The Maryland SREC program is designed to help finance solar systems throughout the state to satisfy the renewable energy goals of the state. Current Maryland law requires that the SREC's be first offered to utilities for 15 year contracts. After 5 business days, solar facilities can sell the srec's to any willing buyer. Knollwood Energy will be happy to buy your SREC's once the 5 business day period ends.
SREC prices are determined by market forces and a state established penalty rate. The penalty rate is the price a utility pays if they have not purchased enough SREC's, as defined by their state mandated requirement.
Knollwood Energy was established in 2006 to purchase SREC’s in the state of NJ and other states where programs would be developed. Knollwood is currently the largest independent buyer of SREC’s in NJ and is aggressively moving into the developing MD market.
